The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) today reiterated that Cadbury chocolates, which are previously found tainted with porcine DNA are Halal to be eaten.

About 100 Muslim consumers including bloggers will be eating Cadbury chocolate in an attempt to defend the product's halal status.

PPIM said said the recent findings of porcine DNA in Cadbury chocolates can sabotage the country's economy.

The Health Ministry said it does not rule out the possibility of contamination of the two samples of chocolate.

Jakim stands by their decision which they issued and have no problem proving it to the public.

Following the scare in Malaysia, Saudi authorities are also conducting tests of their own on Cadbury chocolates for pig DNA.

The National Fatwa Council said the ruling is referred to the original ruling as the contamination occurred beyond the scope of control.

The official decision on the halal status of Cadbury chocolates will be made and announced within seven days.

Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) also wants JAKIM to take random samplings every two months on all products.

Cadbury has taken immediate action by recalling the products which has traces of porcine DNA and confirms that not other chocolates were affected by this test.
